Peruse the galleries

Homer is known throughout Alaska as a haven for artists of all kinds. Theater, film, painting, sculpting, music, performance and writing are all vibrant parts of the local arts community. In addition to galleries and performances, there are classes and workshops that range from theater and dance to writing and visual arts. Plenty of local art fills galleries from Pioneer Avenue to the end of the Spit.

Some highlights of the eclectic Homer arts scene include the Kachemak Bay Writers’ Conference, the Pier One Theater and the Mariner Theater. Visitors can find everything from oil paintings, paper and glass art, Alaska Native art, intricate beading, talented musicians performing live music and outstanding thespians performing at various venues. Each month at First Friday events, local artists showcase their talents throughout town. To take in all the arts Homer has to offer, start at the Homer Council on the Arts in the Bunnell Street Arts Center.
